Pop icon Marianne Faithfull passes away at 78

British singer and actor Marianne Faithfull, best known for her hit song "As Tears Go By", has died at the age of 78, a spokesperson said on Thursday. The singer got her first break in 1964, after being discovered by Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham.

Faithfull was spotted by Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham and soon exploded into fame during the 1960s. She became forever linked to the Rolling Stones in both muse and collaborator and appeared on some of their works, such as "Sister Morphine." Her relationship with Mick Jagger was one that was particularly very notable during the period.

In 1979, Faithfull made a spectacular comeback with the critically acclaimed album "Broken English," which portrayed her unique voice and raw lyrical style. She also appeared in films, including "Marie Antoinette," and participated in stage productions like "Three Sisters."


Mick Jagger got word on Instagram, posting, "I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Marianne Faithfull. She was really part of my life for so long. She was a great friend, was a beautiful singer, and an amazing actress."

Faithfull's success and other challenges in life have seen her at the same time with life good times and personal challenges, such as struggling with substance abuse and health problems. Yet, she remained to be a persistent and influential figure in the music and entertainment industries.
